Vitamins

I'm not sure why exactly, but one thing I know is that when I take my multivitamins before I go to sleep, I wake up feeling better. It's a simple switch from the morning to before bed, but there is a big difference. I have been researching it and it seems like it's vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is necessary for the conversion of 5HTP to 5HT (serotonin). Serotonin is essential for sleep. Serotonin levels decrease at night. It is likely that this drop is attributed to melatonin peak which happens at night. Melatonin is synthesized from serotonin. Therefore an increase in serotonin leads to a sufficient substrate pool for melatonin synthesis which can lead to better sleep. A Vitamin B6 deficiency can lower serotonin levels. I'm not sure if additional supplements help, but I can testify that B6 supplementation at nighttime has improved my mood and sleep. It may be that I'm just deficient.

Interesting article

Interesting article. Seems like the textbook example. One interesting thing is that they address depression as a result of fighting DSPS whereas the person who followed their schedule was fine. I've been thinking about this alot lately and realize that DSPS can have some pretty bad consequences beyond our control that people should be aware about.

Welcome

I have struggled with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome for about 10 years and it's been increasingly frustrated. I been to 5 doctors and only the Stanford Medical Research Center heard about it. I'm posting up things I found in order to help others and as a way for me to centralize all the information I find. Hope this helps!
